Cords to Connections: How Energy Moves Between Us

May 23
4 min read

If you’ve been curious about the cords (or connections) that shape your days, come in. This room sits in the space between what we feel, what we exchange, and what we never quite notice.

Cords. Today I want to talk about cords.

That's… probably a really woo‑woo way to put it. You could call it “connection,” but I’ll probably use the term cord a hell of a lot here.

Don’t, don’t, don’t click off yet.

I know it sounds pretty woo‑woo, but even if you don’t dig the spiritual aspect, I truly believe there’s something you can take away from this, and actually apply. This one is a practical one.

Hi, hello! Welcome or welcome back! I’m Leticia, a 30‑something with zero credentials as an influencer or guru, but I’m here genuinely trying to put out things that might help someone out. Why are you reading what a stranger on the internet says? Well… aren’t we all? Haven’t we all? I don’t think I’ve ever met any school‑book author of any of the books I learned from. Anyway — hi! I’m Leticia, my mind is non‑linear. Welcome.

Cords. Back to cords. Or connections.

This is probably going to lean a lot into relationship‑type cords, but I’ll make sure to dip into other aspects because it’s an expandable subject.

Also, be warned: this is my understanding of the topic so far, at this moment, through my experience. I’m pretty sure (and hope) future Leticia will have another 2 cents. So take it as you may.

I see reality as this really big mesh.

A huge intertwining of threads that create the fabric of reality.

New threads are cut and added daily.

Some take more time, some less.

We all live in our own reality.

In which we are, supposedly, the protagonists.

Reality is built up of all that we are, from our past experiences to the values we are imbued with.

Notice, I said "built up" not "filtered through".

For better or worse, we live within our perception boundaries, right?

Your exact reality, lived, felt, and experienced by someone else, would be... another reality.

That doesn't mean you cannot be exposed to more and expand (or retract, why not?).

After all, we do share reality to a certain extent.

Which is how we cross paths with others.

And that’s where predictability falls short.

And you know that.

You are the protagonist and allegedly an active agent in your reality.

Meaning you hold power to change, modify, react, not react, act, or not act.

And whatever you choose makes its waves.

But you cannot control everything.

And I am pretty sure you have already been proven that many times in your life, you don't need me to say so.

That’s because all these threads are weaving into reality.

This human vessel isn’t built to process everything, it would go crazy.

I know mine would. The amount of information I can process is definitely less than what can reach me, even in a single day.

One way to see this: you cannot control people’s actions, but they do affect you.

To higher or lower degrees.

Whether you want them to or not.

That day your boss was nasty, because why not, and made the day miserable for everyone? That could’ve ruined a date or made you a new RP at the gym.

That person who sped on the highway, changed lanes like they owned the place, caused a tiny collision that became the biggest drama and delayed everyone’s commute by an hour?

That stranger who met your eyes, smiled the most beautiful smile, and said “Oh, hello, have a nice day!” and somehow that brightened your whole morning?

Do I need to go further? Those. The like.

You are constantly exchanging energy, in many shapes and forms, with people and things.

Where attention goes, energy flows.

Cords have two sides, they connect two ends. A and B.

In which one feeds and the other is fed. One gives, the other receives.

Below I tried to represent some energy dynamics. I generally see cords as just a single thread, but it was way easier to represent the exchange with two lines. But I suppose... you could see it as two different threads, as we can see our connections differently. Each to their own.

Chalkboard-style graphic with bread, an apple and a cupcake labeled someone, you and 10$ apple, linked by playful arrows.
Iteration by yours truly; no food favorites were intentionally picked here.

It’s easier to see this dynamic between people than situations or material (things).

And it's a given to say that harmonious connections have a balanced dynamic.

Giving and receiving go both ways in balanced amounts.

I’m not saying it’s 50/50.

It’s more about being balanced enough to be sustainable for whatever purpose that connection has at that moment.

Let's say... apples.

I don’t know where you’re from, but paying 10‑money for one apple is a pretty unbalanced exchange that either wouldn’t happen or wouldn’t last long.

Same thing for a relationship.

If you’re the only one making an effort to free your schedule, things might get rough down the line.

I’m just now noticing this is getting long.

And I’ve only introduced the concept of a cord.

I’ll talk more about the relationship aspect in the next post.

Spoiler alert: it’s about cutting cords.

So I’ll cut this short (ba‑dum‑tss).

Where are my pun‑not‑intended and dad‑joke people at?

Hope you reach me here.

Recapping:

  1. Cords = Connections (energetic, emotional, practical), whatever name you prefer.

  2. Reality is a mesh of threads: we’re all weaving our own, but they overlap constantly.

  3. You are the protagonist of your reality: you act, choose, react, and your choices ripple outward.

  4. You can’t control everything: other people’s actions affect you, whether you want them to or not. So their choices can ripple inward if you let them do so (the caveat is how).

  5. Energy flows where attention goes: cords have two ends, and energy moves both ways (sometimes not and that can become a problem).

  6. Balanced connections feel sustainable: 50/50 is idealistic, mutually nourishing (somehow) is more realistic.

  7. Unbalanced exchanges drain you: like paying “10‑money for one apple,” it doesn’t last.

At one point, there will be a link HERE, to the next post.

And I'll finally use the "related" post feature (yay!) if I can figure that out.

See you next week.

Until then, notice your cords, the ones that feed you, and the ones that fray you.

Cheers!
